Dr Suhail Naik, President DAK said that ”In the meeting it was unanimously decided that all the doctors working in peripheral health care system of Kashmir will avail all gazetted holidays with effect from 30th April 2018.

The decision has been taken in view of non-seriousness and callous attitude of the successive state governments in addressing the genuine and legitimate demands of doctors particularly “two and half day salary” and “risk allowances. It is also pertinent to mention that the Medical officers are attending additional duties on Sundays without any offs and consultants are also attending additional duties in the form of “call duties” without any incentives from Govt”.

Dr Naik further said that “on gazetted holidays only emergency departments will function akin to Sundays and only doctors who are on emergency Rooster duty will join their respective duties”. Dr Naik requested the administrators that they shall not force any doctor to run Out Patient department (OPD) or routine Duty on the said holidays. DAK said that the ”the aforementioned decision is fully supported by Jammu Kashmir Doctors Coordination Committee (JKDCC) which is an amalgam of all doctors associations of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh which include Society of Consultant Doctors(SCD) and Society of Dental Surgeons Jammu Kashmir(SDSJK) among other associations.

DAK requests the general public to cooperate fully with us as our genuine demands are pending before government for decades now. In future DAK may go for indefinite strike if government will not address our legitimate demands in given time frame.
